Olajide
Lawal
Olajide (Jide) Lawal graduated with B.Sc. (Hons.) degree in Geology
from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) Ile-Ife in
1974 and obtained his M.Sc. in Applied Geology (Sedimentary and
Petroleum Geology option) from the same institution in 1977. He
proceeded to the University of Nice, France where he received his
Doctorat de 3e Cycle (Ph.D) Geology specializing in Stratigraphic
Palynology in 1982. Jide did major parts of professional training and
attachments in the laboratories of Société Nationale Elf Aquitaine
Production (S.N.E.A.P.) in Boussens and Esso Production Research
(European) at Bčgles near Bordeaux.
In 1983, Dr. Jide Lawal joined the academic staff of the University of
Ilorin, Kwara State as Lecturer II in Geology. He was promoted Lecturer
I in 1985 till September 1991 when he resigned to pursue a career in
geological consulting. During the year 1985, he was a post- doctoral
Research Fellow for 3 months at the University of Göttingen, Germany
where his research was entirely devoted to the study of Cretaceous and
Cenozoic Dinoflagellate cysts and Cenozoic Calcareous Nannofossils from
Nigeria. Jide was Associate Lecturer in post-graduate geology teaching
Paleontology and Palynology at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria in
1985 – 1986 session. As Associate Lecturer, Jide has been teaching
Petroleum Geology to postgraduate students in the Master of Applied
Geophysics programme of the University of Lagos since 2005/2006.
Between 1986 and 1988, during a leave of absence from Unilorin, Dr.
Jide Lawal served as Senior Consultant Palynologist with Geotrex

studies majority of which are integrated with seismic and sequence
stratigraphic methodologies on over 140 exploration and/or development
wells (coal and petroleum) in Cretaceous and Cenozoic sedimentary
sequences across several Nigerian basins particularly the Benue and
Niger Delta. Ninety-eight per cent of these studies are confidential
and proprietary to clients especially the oil companies. Jide has
published several academic papers in international journals and is
currently a Senior Lecturer in Geology at the Olabisi Onabanjo
University, Ago-Iwoye, Nigeria. Dr. Jide Lawal has had over 30 years
